Mexicans, in my family, let's just say my brother's gotten used to the chaos they cause in his household every damn holiday. Festivities often last a month at a time, while he endures it, and much tequila and spontaneous dancing are involved. My dad sympathizes, but delights in its ridiculousness.
And we do too. My favorite Mexican family stories involve children who grow up to become doctors, with the promise to practice some of that expensive medicine beyond our borders. Helping their own. Seen it with my own eyes, and it moves me everytime how much these parents love their professionally degreed children.
Well, two batches of these salsa growers were headed to our family compound to pretend that the New Year happens for them too. It never seems to, but they rarely care...a fiesta IS a fiesta. Plus, a break from all that senseless murder.
Can hardly blame them for wanting to pretend to be Democratic Americans with no voting rights, or tax paying abilities whatsoever. Money just FEELS BETTER when it's stolen from you, by trustworthy authorities. You know?
So...I'm never going to get my birthday chow at this rate, type faster, type faster!!! One family made it all the way to Norman Rockwellsville, the other...had to turn around and handle a typical "I'm going to kill all your family if you don't bring us money now" dispute.
They're used to it, so I'm not going to let it bother me tonight and ruin my special feast. Saddest story I'll think about tomorrow however, be sure on THAT at least. Yes, be sure on that.
